Python Killed 2-year-old

Posted on July 12th, 2011 @ 6:14 PM by Allison

The not-so publicized case against Jaren Hare and Charles Darnell is similar to the charged that Casey Anthony had to face. The two are being tried for manslaughter and  child neglect. The couple had a 8 1/2 feet python that they keep in a cage in their house, along with Shaiunna Hare, Jaren Hare 2-year-old daughter. The python was known to escape from his cage and roam around the house. Also, documents stated that the python had not been fed in over a month. Consequently, in June 2009 the python escaped from his cage at night and attacked toddler Shaiunna Hare while everyone was sleeping. The mother, Jaren Hare, and her boyfriend, Charles Darnell, are now in trial for the death of this 2-year-old girl. The defense attorney is  claiming it was just a terrible accident.

The prosecution’s opening statement was a step-by-step look at Casey Anthony’s life from the day Caylee Anthony disappeared. The prosecution pointed out that Casey’s behavior was not that of a grieving mother who who missing a daughter, but that of a out of control young adult who’s main priority was drinking and partying. However, the defense opening statement focused on George Anthony, Casey’s step-father. The defense stated that Casey was sexually abused as a child and taught to lie. Also, they stated that “this is not a murder trial”, but was just a mistake. Jose Baez, Casey’s defense attorney, claimed that Caylee drowned in the pool, and Casey and George covered it up.
